EMCAN New Mount – AZ40

See this impressive setup. This mount should be ideal for serious visual observers. The compact and powerful ALT-AZ mount allows a binoscope to be mounted on top, making it perfect for BINO setups as well. It should also be excellent for total solar eclipse observations, as it allows multiple viewing configurations within a limited time of the totality.

The mount and accessories will be available at Astro Hutech shortly.

The current EM31Pro in top mode performs very well for my BINO setup. However, I may switch to the AZ40 in the future, as it is much simpler and more compact—making it ideal for overseas expeditions such as total solar eclipse trips.

Sightron New Dual Bandpass Filter

Sightron’s new filter is scheduled to come up this April. The key features are

  • Reducing red color cast at the corners
  • Natural RGB color balance

See the following comparison test. 1st test image will likely look very familiar when taken with the astronomy-modified consumer cameras.

ToupTek D60 + Modified Canon 6D + White LED flat panel

Since modified cameras tend to exhibit strong red color cast, this filter is optimized for such use.

The red color cast at the edges is minimal, making subsequent image processing much easier.

I will also publish the results obtained using a dedicated astronomy color camera at a later date.

Solid Visual Observing Setup

This is the 1st setup for the local beginning user who has seriously started the astronomy.

SJ Alt-az Mount

More Blue AU113

More Blue SD111

There are various SD111 mount couplers for other mounts such as Takahashi and Vixen ete, which allows to easily switch the mount-to-mount. This is one example.

The mount coupler only is available too.
