SJ 50/F16

What a scope! I talked to myself while looking thru an eyepiece. “Is this just 50mm aperture??”. The sky was at least better than last attempt.

A telescope set up outdoors at dusk, with a clear blue sky and a lemon tree in the background.

I enjoyed observing the Jupiter. I set Masuyama 1.5x and MOP-15. So it was 80x. Very bright and clean view. 80x view encouraged me to push more. But unfortunately I didn’t have 12.5mm. Another proper eyepiece was 10mm, which takes to 120x. It was definitely too much. Most likely 80x – 100x seems to be the proper mag. with this scope at my backyard.

It’s amazing to see the performance of this small and lightweight scope. 800mm focal length is usually 4 – 5″ They are much bulky and heavier. This scope is just 1.3kg! Grab-n-Go by single hand.

Also 800mm is perfect with 1″ square sensors like Player One Saturn-M.

A detailed view of the Moon, framed by a cyan rectangle, set against a black starry background with tiny yellow stars.

I will try to shoot when the lunar phase become favorable next time.

SJ ALT-AZ Mount – Hirth Joint

All mechanical engineers know the name of the person who invented the joint, as their common sense. I saw this connection type But I didn’t know who invented.

Close-up view of a Sightron mounting bracket featuring dials and adjustment knobs, designed for precision equipment.

Sightron’s ALT-AZ mount uses the Hirth Joint, which allows to adjust the ALT arm angle while still maintaining the solid connection. This is a really practical and reliable joint indeed. (BTW, EMCAN Mount has the Hirth Joint too)

Pointing to the zenith? No problem!

SJ D50L

Seeing was terrible last night due to the Santa Ana wind. Instead pleasingly warm. Over 80F daytime these days. Sorry to the people who live in the winter stormy areas.

Anyway, I pointed the scope to the Moon and the Jupiter.

A white telescope mounted on a black tripod, positioned outdoors with blurred green trees in the background.

Masuyama 15mm was proper one for viewing the entire the moon. It was exactly what I was expecting – very good contrast.

The long FL achromat always reminds me of the experiences when I was observing thru GOTO 80/F15 50 years ago.

The Jupiter’s 2 bands were somehow visible.

Unfortunately the sky was not good condition. I will re-attempt over this weekend.

Sightron Japan D50/F16

Will be available here in US soon.

Well blackened inside a tube. I looked thought the blue sky. It was totally dark inside a tube. There is nothing shining inside. Well-made and beautiful fully-multi-coated objective lens. So we can expect extremely high contrast lunar view. I tried tonight if the sky is clear.

ToupTek HOPE D60

This is 1st test by D60.

Hope D60 full-frame PIPO professional astronomical telescope with a sleek design
A stunning image of a starry sky featuring bright stars and colorful nebulae, with prominent celestial objects including the Orion nebula. Captured with a Canon Ra camera.

D60 + Canon Ra, 98 x 2′

A collage of nine star field images showcasing various celestial bodies and star clusters against a dark sky backdrop.

Looks very nice! The scope seems to perform as their publishing. It should be the premium wide-field telescope. The illumination power is more than 90% at 22mm radius. So I’m sure it is quite comfortable to the full frame camera owners even under the light polluted sky too.
